Chemeketa Press is proud to announce the publication of Fifty/Fifty: Fifty Years of Chemeketa in Fifty Words, a collection of stories that celebrates the college’s golden anniversary. Inside you’ll find an introduction from college president Dr. Jessica Howard as well as the perspectives of students, faculty, and staff both past and present. Alternately funny, impactful, and inspiring, these stories capture what it means to be part of the Chemeketa community in fifty memorable words.
Get Your Copy
We believe stories can bring us together and make change possible. To achieve this, we are offering a commemorative print edition to anyone who makes a donation to the Student Relief Fund through the Chemeketa Foundation. This fund serves our most vulnerable students in two ways: through our on-campus food pantry and through emergency financial assistance given to students facing an unforeseen financial crisis. Although our food pantry is not currently open, the Foundation has been able to grant grocery gift cards electronically to students in need to help combat food insecurity while the college is closed. This vital assistance is needed now more than ever before.
Please consider making your donation today. Donors will receive a print copy of Fifty/Fifty by mail and will receive their donation receipt via email when you give online. To make a gift via check, please have your donation made out to the Chemeketa Foundation at 4000 Lancaster Drive NE, Salem, OR 97305. Please write “Fifty/Fifty Student Relief” in the memo line, and we will mail your print copy and donation receipt by mail. Thank you for your life-changing contribution.
Read It Now
A digital version of the book is available free to everyone. We hope these stories will remind us all of the community and history we share, even while we are apart. To access the book, please visit RedShelf, a cloud-based e-reader (requires the creation of a free account) or download a PDF of the book.
This book would not be possible without the support of the Department of Liberal Arts, Institutional Advancement, Marketing, and the Foundation. Thank you to everyone who trusted us with their stories. There would be no book without you.
The Fifty/Fifty Team
This book is a collaboration between Chemeketa Press and The Courier, the college’s award-winning student-led multimedia news outlet. Our student editorial board read over one-hundred submissions in early 2020, voted on the final fifty, and organized the collection. Student Taylor Wynia oversaw the production of the book in her role as manuscript editor. Guided by faculty at the Press, The Courier, and Visual Communications, students gained valuable professional experience as editorial assistants, proofreaders, and book designers.
